Earlier research has shown that grey matter is reduced in Huntington patients’ brains, which can be one explanation to these patients’ motor symptoms. Recent neuroimaging studies have shown that changes in white matter precede the grey matter changes and the onset of motor symptoms.
By studying white matter alterations in the limbic/hypothalamic system Sanaz hopes to find answers to the development of early HD non-motor features, like changes in social behavior, apathy, depression and anxiety.
